Class Description

Reading 053 is a 3.0 unit college-transferable course designed for students who are already reading at a college freshman level of competency. This course will enable them to reach their optimal reading speeds and to improve their comprehension of collegiate and technical materials, as well as to increase their enjoyment of recreational reading.

To this end, I teach this course to offer students the opportunity to work on developing analytical reading strategies, building upon their own experience, insights, and observations. Generally, my students will read a fiction novel, a non-fiction novel, write assignments responding to those texts, and work on several other, shorter writing and reading assignments. In doing this work, I hope they will learn how to use critical thinking strategies that are required in college-level reading and assignments across the Mission College campus and at other universities.
