Home | About Suggested Reading List Dashiell Hammett wrote a few other novels and several short stories, some of which feature Sam Spade. Here's a recommended reading list of Hammett's other work, if you enjoyed The Maltese Falcon: Sam Spade Short Stories: Beside The Maltese Falcon, Hammett wrote only three other stories featuring Sam Spade. All three are found in the short story collection, Nightmare Town: Stories. All of the stories were written in 1932, two years after The Maltese Falcon. You should be able to order the book through a bookstore, if you can't find it in one. The three stories are called: "A Man Called Spade" --  Spade's client is killed before he can hire Spade to solve a mystery! "Too Many Have Lived" -- Spade is hired to find a missing poet, and his client is the poet's greatest enemy! "They Can Only Hang You Once" -- Spade has to solve a murder in a isolated mansion!
