Hi, I'm a full-time reading instructor for Mission College. I've been teaching at Mission College for 6 years. Background Previously, I taught English classes at San Jose State University, San Francisco State University (SFSU), and Mission's sister campus: West Valley College. As a part-time instructor, I've also taught reading courses at Mission and at SFSU. I received my undergraduate degree in English at San Jose State, and as a graduate student, I studied English composition and reading instruction at SFSU. I used to be a free lance technical writer and editor, mainly writing Star Trek computer game manuals, and I was a journalist for the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal, where I reported on education and non-profit organizations. Most Recently In summer 2008, I was asked to speak on best practices in teaching reading by the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges for the statewide Basic Skills Initiative, which gave me a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with other teachers in determining how to better serve our students. In
2007-2008, Mission College's Associated Student Body elected me
"Outstanding Faculty of the Year," which was very kind of them. If I
deserved the award, it is due to the efforts of my students in
completing their class work. I honestly believe that I am only as good
as my students, given how much I ask and expect of them.
