Course Description:

English 1A will help you to improve your discussion and analytical reading, critical thinking, and writing process. In this class, you will be writing essays and reading college-level texts. Above all, this course will help you develop real-world skills, such as audience-awareness and persuasion, which will enable you to participate in both an academic and professional community.

Orientation Schedule:

Please attend a mandatory orientation meeting on Friday, February 6 from 10:00-1:00pm in Room E2-501. If you are trying to add this section on or after Monday, February 2, you must attend the orientation.

On Campus Requirements:

There will be three in-person meetings: an orientation on Feb. 6th from 10:00am-1:00pm A midterm: TBA A Final: TBA

All exams will be in room E2-501.

(1) Reading Critically, Writing Well: a Reader and a Guide 8th Edition by Rise B Axelrod (2) About a Boy by Nick Hornby (3) Keys for Writers 5th ed. by Ann Raimes

Outline of Topics to be Covered:

We will be writing: Four Essays 3-5 pages, One Research paper 6-8 pages, Learning how to use MLA citations. Some topics for our essays will include: The Internet and Education, the Effects of Horror Movies, A proposal, a literary analysis, and much more.
