Orientation Schedule:

You may attend either session: Wednesday, February 2, 11:30am-1:30pm, room E1-603, or Wednesday, February 2, 4:45pm-6:50pm, room N2-401. Both sessions will cover the same material.

On Campus Requirements:

We will meet on campus five (5) times during the semester, for orientation at the beginning of the semester, a review session prior to the first midterm, two midterm exams, and a final exam. You may attend these meetings at either 11:30am or 4:45pm. Both sessions cover the same material. If you cannot attend at these times, exams may be taken at 7:00pm with Acctg 1B. Orientation: February 2, 11:30am or 4:45pm. Review for Midterm: March 2, 11:30am or 4:45pm. First Midterm: March 9, 11:30am or 4:45pm or 7:00pm. Second Midterm: April 20, 11:30am or 4:45pm or 7:00pm. Final Exam: May 25, 11:30am or 4:45pm or 7:00pm.

Exam Requirements and Location:

There will be two midterm exams and one final exam administered at Mission College. Three different exam times are available. You may attend at either time: First Midterm: Wednesday, March 9, 11:30am-1:30pm, room E1-603, or Wednesday, March 9, 4:45pm-6:50pm, room N1-202, or at 7:00pm with Acctg 1B. Second Midterm: Wednesday, April 20, 11:30am-1:30pm, room E1-603, or Wednesday, April 20, 4:45pm-6:50pm, room N1-202, or at 7:00pm with Acctg 1B. Final Exam: Wednesday, May 25, 11:30am-1:30pm, room E1-603, or Wednesday, May 25, 4:45pm-6:50pm, room N1-202, or at 7:00pmwith Acctg 1B.

Textbook: Accounting, Sixth Edition; Horngren/Harrison/Bamber; Prentice Hall.

Outline of Topics to be Covered:

This introductory course in Accounting will give you both a theoretical understanding and application of that understanding using real world situations. This will include understanding in vocabulary, financial statements, the accounting cycle including adjusting entries and closing entries, accounting information systems, cash, internal control, accounts and notes receivable, merchandise inventory, plant assets and depreciation, current liabilities, payroll accounting, the time value of money, generally accepted accounting principles, and ethics. After satisfactory completion of this course you will be able to properly maintain sets of books for both service and merchandising businesses. You also will be able to utilize accounting information to make sound business decisions.
